Evidence Based Skills & Strategies
To Make Calm, Clear, Confident Choices
Without Anxiety, Blame, Anger or Shame
School teaches us the basics.
Work teaches us specifics.
But very few people are ever shown how to perform under pressure, communicate effectively, or resolve conflict without damage.
So we repeat patterns, reinforce childhood conditioning, ignore problems, or create bigger issues for ourselves
Not because people are bad —
but because they were never taught the skills that humans require to actually thrive.
This workshop fills that gap.
You will build better capacity to face life’s challenges – by mastering three core foundations for effective behaviour
*informed by decades of research and clinical trials
It is impossible to make wise choices while your nervous system is in a state of fight or flight. Learning to soothe physical, emotional, and mental dysregulation in yourself and others is a key predictor of successful outcomes.
Understanding the reality of a situation, yourself, or another’s position, is a precondition for making wise choices. How we relate to ourselves and others influences the quality of the outcomes we achieve.
Response-ability is determined by our state, our understanding, and the conditions that are present in a particular context. Responding effectively (vs reacting) ideally produces clear boundaries that support ongoing positive conditions
Unconcious Reactivity to Intentional Responding
Your nervous system is designed to protect you — but it can also cause you to repeat old patterns.
You’ll learn how to recognise emotional flooding and interrupt conditioned reactions before they escalate.
Separating Sensations From Stories
Most mental and emotional pain is not about what actually happened.
It’s about the meaning we attach to it.
You’ll learn how to separate what occurred from the story your mind created, and how to create healthy stories that support you to engage in better behaviours.
How To Tame Negativity
Your brain constantly searches for proof that your beliefs are true.
This can quietly reinforce unhelpful patterns in relationships.
You’ll learn how attention shapes behaviour — and how behaviour shapes identity – and how a simple technique can make significant change in a matter of days
Regulation Under Pressure
If you cannot stay steady, you cannot choose wisely.
You’ll learn simple techniques to calm the nervous system so that conversations remain constructive.
Effective Communication
Most people speak to prove a point.
Healthy communication focuses on understanding first.
You’ll learn a simple structure that allows people to feel heard without the conversation turning defensive.
Navigating Differences Respectfully
Disagreement is normal.
Damage is optional.
You’ll learn how to pause difficult conversations safely, return to them constructively, and repair misunderstandings quickly; all while maintaining a healthy frame of mutual respect.
Building A Boundaried Identity
Confidence does not come from thinking differently.
It comes from acting differently — consistently.
You’ll learn how to create simple behavioural agreements that build trust and self-respect.
This workshop is a good fit if…
This is not therapy.
This is skill-building.
For many people, this workshop is enough to create immediate improvement.
For those who want to go further, it also serves as a foundation for two deeper programs:
Get It Together
A structured group program focused on personal responsibility, emotional regulation, and strong decision-making.
Love Is Not Enough
A program for couples who want to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and create healthy relationship agreements.
Participation in those programs is optional.
The workshop stands on its own.
Greater calm
Increased self-respect
Clearer boundaries
Release from old shame patterns
Cleaner conflict
Better listening
Faster repair
More mutual respect
More stable responses
Modelling regulation instead of reactivity
Breaking intergenerational patterns
Clearer communication
Stronger boundaries

Is this evidence-informed?
Yes, of course.
The material taught in this foundation session integrates principles from established, research-backed approaches used in modern therapy and relationship science, including:
The Gottman Method — decades of research on what makes relationships succeed or fail, including conflict repair, emotional attunement, and behavioural stability.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT / EFCT) — attachment-based work that helps partners create secure emotional bonds.
Attachment Theory — understanding how early relational patterns shape adult communication and emotional responses.
Nervous System Regulation Research — including polyvagal-informed approaches to understanding stress, fight/flight/freeze/fawn responses, and emotional flooding.
Structured Communication Frameworks — clear speaker–listener methods and repair protocols that reduce escalation.
Evidence-based conflict repair strategies — practical tools that prioritise safety, clarity, and behavioural follow-through.
The difference is that this session translates those therapeutic principles into structured, practical skills you can apply immediately in daily life.
This is not pop psychology.
It is not motivational speaking.
It is not vague “just communicate better” advice.
It is practical application grounded in relationship science and clinical experience.
Is this a replacement for therapy, couples counselling, or marriage counselling?
No.
This foundation session is not a replacement for therapy.
It is a structured skills resource that can support and accelerate progress for individuals and couples who are already in counselling — or considering it.
If you are in couples counselling or marriage counselling, these tools will strengthen your ability to engage productively in sessions.
If you are not in therapy, this session can help you determine whether structured support would benefit you.
How does this help with relationship repair?
Relationship repair requires three things:
Regulation
Clear communication
Structured behavioural agreements
Most couples struggle because they try to repair while emotionally flooded.
This session teaches you how to stabilise first — and then communicate clearly.
That makes relationship repair far more effective.
Is this communication training?
Yes… and more
This is practical communication training grounded in psychology, nervous system regulation, and structured dialogue methods.
You will learn:
How to listen properly
How to speak without escalating conflict
How to validate without collapsing
How to set boundaries clearly
This applies to marriages, parenting, leadership, and business communication.
Is this suitable for couples?
Yes!
Couples are encouraged to attend together.
However, even if only one partner attends, the skills can immediately improve relational dynamics.
Change in one regulated adult often shifts the entire system.
I’m a parent. How will this help?
Children learn regulation from modelling.
When you stabilise your own nervous system:
Yelling reduces
Consequences become calmer
Emotional safety increases
Discipline becomes structured rather than reactive
Parenting improves when adult regulation improves.
I’m a business owner or leader. Is this relevant?
Absolutely.
Leadership under pressure is regulation under pressure.
Teams mirror nervous systems.
When leaders stabilise, teams stabilise.
Clear communication and calm authority reduce turnover, tension, and burnout.
What happens after the foundation session?
Foundations is an excellent stand-alone skills builder for individual or couples counselling. If structure, discipline and acountability is needed an optional 12-week program can be enrolled in.
The 12-week program builds:
Deeper emotional regulation capacity
Structured relationship repair skills
Advanced communication frameworks
Strong parenting leadership
Calm, stable authority
Participation in the foundation session does not obligate you to continue.
It simply gives you the tools to decide.
